Membership Covenant

MEMBERSHIP COVENANT

Saskatoon Chinese Alliance Church is a constituent member of the district and national organizations of The Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada and operates in accordance with its objectives, purpose, principles, and Statement of Faith under the Local Church Constitution.

As a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ, I have confessed my faith by baptism and now before the senior pastor or an elder. It is my sincere desire to join Saskatoon Chinese Alliance Church as an active member by committing to the following statements:

1. I accept the Statement of Faith as described under Article III of the Local Church Constitution in the current edition of the Manual of the Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada.

2. I adhere to the Manual of the Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada and the Bylaws of Saskatoon Chinese Alliance Church.

3. I will submit to God by

   • giving my best in serving the Lord;

   • respecting our pastors and our elders;

   • being faithful in tithes and offerings;

   • attending worship services regularly;

   • loving my brothers and sisters;

   • paying attention to my church affairs and attending Meetings of the Membership; and

   • abiding by the teaching of the Apostles’ Creed.

4. I understand that discipline is an exercise of spiritual authority which the Lord Jesus has given to His Church. The purposes of discipline are to maintain the honour of the Redeemer, the purity of the Church, the spiritual benefit of the members, and the restoration of the offender. I accept and comply with the authority of the Governing Board on these disciplinary actions in accordance to the Discipline and Restoration Policy for Members of Local Churches of The Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada.

5. If I am alleged to be in violation of scriptural moral standards, doctrinal truth or proper Christian behaviour, I may be subject to inquiry and discipline procedure. The term “violation of scriptural moral standards” as used by The Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada shall include, but not be limited to, sexual activity outside of a monogamous heterosexual marriage, sexual-harassment or assault, homosexuality, misappropriation of funds, dishonesty or fraud in business and legal transactions, and guilt in a criminal offense.

6. I accept marriage is a holy ceremony of the Church and define marriage as being a monogamous, life-long union between a man and a woman in accordance with the statements set forth in the “Marriage – Divorce – Remarriage” section of the current edition of the Manual of The Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada.

I confirm that I have read and understood all the above statements and agree to be bound by these commitments as conditions of my membership at Saskatoon Chinese Alliance Church. Any violations of the above commitments could result in termination of my membership as seen appropriate by the Governing Board.
